An old dictionary is a thrill; delve into the pages and discover which words were deemed worthy of inclusion, and read how the definitions were expressed. Presented in a naturalist-display case-inspired frame, a mushroom is painted over the dictionary pages beside the definition: “fun’gus (-ng-g-) noun. mushroom, toadstool, mildew, etc.; a spongy morbid growth (fun’gi (-gi-) funguses pl.) – fun’geous” – The New Practical Dictionary 1963.
Fungus n. a spongy morbid growth - Rachael Robb
