About the event
This Fungi Feastival, Dr Elisabeth (a local vet with a passion for food and gardening) is opening her organic orchard to gardeners and fungi-lovers alike.
This orchard is in the process of being converted into a productive permaculture garden showcasing edible plants and mushrooms from around the world. Fungi form a vital and often overlooked part of the garden ecosystem, helping recycle dead organic material into nutrients that can be used by plants.
In this orchard, edible fungi including king oysters, wine caps and shiitake mushrooms have been deliberately ‘planted’ to maximise productivity, improve soil structure and provide additional (and delicious) harvests throughout the cooler months of the year.
Come along to explore the garden and stay for a demonstration on setting up outdoor mushroom beds, starting at 1 pm. This demonstration will cover mushroom species selection, substrate sourcing and processing techniques, siting, care and harvesting.
Tea and homemade baked goods will be provided; feel free to bring your own portable chairs and travel mugs. Children must be supervised.
